The folio flew across the barren studio and crashed into the wall with an explosion of pages, the stark white paper contrasting with the dark mahogany room. Alejandro cursed under his breath, the sweat from his brow dripping onto the floor as he paced the teak floor. He has been working on this composition for weeks, no, months, and was still no closer to completion. The music was there, he could hear its tune, its discordant melody deep in his mind but when it came to putting the notes in the staff they were wrong. He reaches for the bottle of wine, swipes the glass from the table to the floor with a crash and pours it into his parched mouth. A deep swallow follows and he slumps on the piano bench. His head rests on his right arm as he taps the key for “G”, a monotone staccato without melody or rhythm. His mind swims with the recent infusion of alcohol, dulling his senses when a chord manifests in his inner ear. The tapping of “G” begins to follow a beat. He follows with a chord, then another before the sudden inspiration takes him across the length of the piano, a frantic pace of discordant beauty crescendos as he rises to his feet. Electricity almost bursts from his fingertips as his hands flow across the keys, a static charge building in the air. Foot on the damper pedal he strikes the final chord. A slow clap echoes from behind him as he slumps back to the bench, the previous blank pages now filled with the smoking notes of this latest piece.
